Some words for the last two gigs

Thessaloniki's show was great and all three bands created a really intense atmosphere. Despite the gig starting around midnight or having less than 25 people we didn't really care.
Tzitzifrikia started playing and it was so loud and emotional, but at the same time joyful and the Comfort came and they demolished everything with their glitchy and dancy tunes.

Then Sunday came and it was time for the StuΔio funding gig. Unfortunately, Tote Kinder couldn't play because of some medical issues and we replaced them. As always it was a really beautiful scenery, seeing a university yard full of amps and woofers and people having a good time. As far away as we can from bodyguards, entrace fees, racial, gender or any discriminations.

So the gig started and we played and we had a great time. And then Les Βίαιες started playing and our heads just exploded. Loud, sometimes fast, sometimes mid-paced and full of anger feminist punk. One of the best bands and people that we played together for sure.
Comfort played last and it was pretty much the same with their previous one. Everyone was screaming and dancing and banging their heads along with them.

A weekend full of noise as we said, and we do hope so that these things will going to be happening frequently. Because that stuff can give you a purpose in these shitty times.

A Weekend full of noise

This Friday we are heading to Thessaloniki for a gig along with our long time friends Tzitzifrikia and the amazing Comfort from Glasgow!
Comfort are on tour and Sotiris and Marina from Tzitzifrikia convinced to stay in Greece for a week, so we managed to organize this show and another one in Sunday by the StuΔio Collective with Les Βίαιες (Queer Punk from Athens) and Tote Kinder (Industrial/Noise Rock from Athens)

Thessaloniki's gig will take place at Lula's Trashyard at 22:00.

Athens' one will take place at Panteio University at 19:00.

StuΔio Mixtape Vol I Release Show

At April 8th we put up a DIY gig with all of the StuΔio team at Agricultural University in Athens, for our financial support.

It was a night dedicated to prove there's no musical boundaries when it comes to companioship in the DIY culture. A night full of rap, noisy synths, angular guitars, screams, singing and jamming.

Much love to all that contributed, Ypoga K94 crew, Powerap Girlz and all the people that helped us carry all of our equipment back!

Distros!

We are happy to share (and a little late too) that Spit Yr Gum tape can be found in the distros below:

This is the first collective release of StuΔio. By listening to it, you'll get to experience a range of music that was captured through a series of jam sessions, live performances, and recordings made by individuals and bands that participate in the group.

We wanted this collection to reflect the diversity that characterizes us in terms of genres and styles, so we did not prioritize strict musical coherence. Our involvement in music is based on relationships, and how we build them. We don't want to settle for a framework where each band or individual makes music in isolation, but to create a space of free and equal participation and growth, both musical and political.

So, in May 2020, we created StuΔio as a self-organized music group and we appropriated the space of the old Polytechnic School student dorms, against the general condition of confinement and isolation that prevailed. After two years of our presence in the dorms, we found ourselves facing a housing problem due to the imminent renovation of the building.

Although the release of this CD satisfies our perennial desire to share our music, one of the reasons we chose to release it at this time is our effort to financially support the group to cover housing expenses.

Last Sunday's gig

Past Sunday we played a gig at Prapopoulou Squat, one of the most beautiful self-organized spaces in this town. Everyone started gathering at around 19:00 o'clock and everything was over until 22:00, really weird thing for a gig in Athens (which usually starts at around 22:00).
A big bravo to Pull The Plug Collective for all the things they've done so far as a newly established group and a huge applause for bringing in the Sunday afternoon gigs as a thing!

A huge thanks to everyone from the squat that was there and of course the great and noisy Chronoboros and Mavro Gala
Both of them played a great set and it really an honor sharing this experience with them.

See you in the next one,

This Sunday we're playing our first gig for the year, along with the great Mavro Gala and Chronoboros.
Gig is hosted by the self organized music team Pull the Plug, part of Prapopoulou Squat. We've witnessed some really great shows in this squat the past years, so it's an honor for us to be a part of one.

Sunday 19/2, 19:00 sharp!
Live starts early, so if you don't want to miss the whole thing respect the timeline.

A report of past Saturday

Last Saturday we played a DIY gig with our dear friends BlomLiving Under Drones and Tote Kinder at our favorite sweaty basement Ypoga K94.

It was one of the most intense moments we have ever experienced, an emotion filled noisy mess. All the bands performed better than ever and the outcome was truly great.

Much love to everyone that was there and supported the show. Much more love to all of our friends that travelled from other cities, to join us. And at last all the love to all our friends that shared the stage with us and all of the Ypoga K94 crew.

Nights like these remind us how important is the existence of the underground DIY scene.
The feeling of setting something like these all of ourselves cannot be topped.

Keep the flame alive,

A gift

That's an egraving made by our lovely friend Xrysa last year while she was in Madrid.
Much much love.

Spit Yr Gum

This summer we recorded our very first album. Everything was done in STUΔIO with the assistance of our buddy Sotiris. Here's the full anouncement as it is stated in our bandcamp.

This album is the accumulation of two of the worst years of our lives. During these trying times of emotional and social turbulence NTEKA was our shelter, safe space and go-to coping mechanism to deal with all this struggle, sorrow and anger. This album is not only our defense but also an attack towards the new politics of control being shoved down our throats. A way not only to express our frustration but to reclaim our voices, our bodies, our lives, the way we want.

As we see it, the only way to accomplish this was by doing things ourselves and by building a network of like minded people outside of the commercial game, without bosses, payments, obligation and third parties' mediations. The band is a part of a self organized music studio (STUΔIO) in Athens and everything was done there from scratch. In this space we learned how to play our instruments, we jammed continuously, we laughed, we cried, we shouted collectively. In this space we became a band.

By expressing what we feel through our music and lyrics, we try to reconnect with our feeling, stop the massive numbness that is being forced upon us the last years and break the vicious circles of being trapped in situations that never seem to change or improve.

This is a call to spit yr gum, move forward, do what expresses yourself, feel free, love one another and stay in opposition with any form of establishment and any force of oppression and repression.

PERSONAL DRAMA

A recording ended up on tape

A friend of ours, Ion C., the mind behind E.C.T.,  recorded this sloppy live we played with Blom & Αρχή Του Τέλους on a Tascam hand recorder. He then procedeed to convince us to release this on tape with this help, and we agreed.

This is not our best live technically, but it sure mirrors the state that we were a year ago. Some of the songs that later became our first album, didn't even existed and some of them are played differently. Anyway, the result was better than expected, exactly because is just a portrayal of our second live in front of other people.  And we thank Ion for the initiative and all he did.

STUΔIO Farewell Show

A briefing of the situation in student dorms

In 2022, Ministry Of Education along with NTUA and other sectors decided to close the student dorms, in order to renovate them. That's something that is being told for almost a decade to people that live there. People who lived in a building without heat, without even water at some point and in general in bad conditions. And when these people demanded the accomplishment of their neccessities, everyone in charge closed the door at them. Now those in charge are using these problems, along with the crime rate that is blooming in the area, to renovate the dorms and throw away the people that live there without any measures for them. They are forced to go to rent, or their family houses (no one cares if these houses are in the city or even in Greece, as there's an amount of migrants living there) or they'll end up homeless, because as it is stated there's no place yet that is ready for them to resident after they leave the building. A pure act of hostile gentrification.

This building is also the home of STUΔIO. And like everyone who's left in the building (most of the residents have already left), we are packing up, so we can continue our journey as a collective somewhere else.

Therefore we had a farewell show in STUΔIO's reahearsal space with our dear friends Tzitzifrikia.
And it was intense.
